Our Town First Stages Project
Was Our Town in YOUR town?
Thornton Wilder's Our Town was produced 658 times in the first 20 months in the United States and Canada after the Broadway production closed in 1939. We found a list of the communities in which these first productions were mounted, but it identifies only the city (or town), state and month and year.
This is where YOU come in: Find out if your home city or town may have hosted a production of Our Town between 1939-1940. Send us your findings and we'll send you a signed copy of The Selected Letters of Thornton Wilder.

Ford's Theatre Events
On February 4, 2012, Ford's Theatre will celebrate the official 75th Anniversary of Our Town's Broadway opening, with the awarding of the third Wilder Prize and an event exploring the play's universal resonances. A post-performance talkback will feature Tappan Wilder, author and Thornton Wilder's nephew. Theatergoers can also enjoy a pre-performance seminar with Tappan Wilder and Wilder biographer Penelope Niven, who will be discussing the Wilder family's legacy and the newly published biography Thornton Wilder: A Life. Other events to be announced will examine Wilder's works that were precursors to or have stylistic resonances of the dramatic conventions employed in Our Town. Event dates and details will be posted on the Ford's Theatre website as the production nears. Visit www.fordstheatre.org to learn more.
The Actors Fund hosted an event celebrating Our Town on March 4th at The Gerald W. Lynch Theatre at John Jay College, New York, NY.
