Hear Wilder's Voice!

February 28, 2011

TW in italy small.jpgWe are pleased to announce the recent addition of audio excerpts to the Thornton Wilder Family website. Look for the gray Audio box in the upper right-hand corner and click on the link to play. Listen to Thornton Wilder's voice as he gives a speech to the Kennedy Cabinet in 1962, just as the administration had begun to prioritize government funding for the arts. Or hear him read excerpts from his plays including Our Town, The Skin of Our Teeth and The Drunken Sisters and his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Bridge of San Luis Rey.

We've also added a piece from The Long Christmas Dinner Opera, composed by Paul Hindemith and a clip from the first page of The Ides of March read in German.

Check back soon for more additions to the audio archives.
